The origin of the coronavirus wreaking havoc around the world remains a source of mystery and controversy. Scientists generally agree that COVID-19 is a zoonotic disease. That means it jumped from animals to humans, most likely from horseshoe bats to people perhaps near the city of Wuhan, in China.
